Men's Volleyball Add Manitoba All-Star Garrett Suderman

The Niagara College men's volleyball program is pleased to announce the addition of setter Garrett Suderman. A native of Niverville, Manitoba, Suderman is one of the top 2014 setter recruits in Canada.

Suderman boasts a resume that includes two seasons as a member of Manitoba Provincial Volleyball Team, a National Club Championship (2011), a National Club Championship Bronze Medal (2010), four Provincial Gold Medals with the Winmen Volleyball Club, and 3 Provincial Gold Medals with the AAAA River East Collegiate Kodiaks.

"Garrett is one of the top setters coming out of high school in the country. His size and natural setting ability will give him a great opportunity to be one of the top CCAA setters as a first year athlete" said Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. He continued "Garrett is a great addition to our already top tier recruiting class and he will make an immediate impact on both our program and the OCAA."

The six-foot-four Suderman will enroll in Niagara College's sport management program beginning in September. He joins a recruiting class that includes OVA All-Stars Will Walton and Jeremy Williams, and dynamic outside hitter Cole Jordan.

"I chose Niagara College because I feel it is an environment where I can succeed both academically as well as athletically" said Suderman. "Coach Groenveld has an impressive resume, and has helped develop a very strong volleyball program at Niagara, which I am very proud to be a part of in the 2014 season."

The small town of Niverville is just 40 km outside the Canadian volleyball hotbed of Winnipeg. The Winnipeg area and other regions across Manitoba are known for producing many of Canada's elite men's and women's volleyball athletes.

The addition of Suderman was a made possible through Coach Groenveld's "close relationship with Manitoba-based coaches and former players." These individuals gave the Knights' fourth-year head coach an introduction and "after watching film on Garrett and talking to people about him, it was clear that he could impact our program in a huge way this season" said Groenveld.

The 18-year old Suderman is looking forward to formally joining the Knights' family this later summer. He added "I want to bring my piece to the puzzle, to help develop as a team, and be a formidable contender for an OCAA title. But more importantly I want to succeed in my studies, and be better prepared for the road that is ahead of me beyond volleyball."

Coach Groenveld added "after talking with Garrett and his parents it was clear that he is great kid from a great family and has the type of character to pursue his academic and volleyball goals the Knight way. We are looking forward to having him with our program moving forward."
