Daniel Groenveld Named OCAA Athlete of the Week

Daniel Groenveld of the Niagara College men's volleyball program has been selected as this week's OCAA Men's Volleyball athlete of the week. Groenveld had an outstanding match during the Knights November 14th victory over the Sheridan Bruins, recording 24 kills and three service aces, and a block.

Groenveld's accolade marks the third time during the 2013-14 season that a Niagara College student-athlete has been selected as an OCAA athlete of the week.

A local Welland native, Groenveld stands at six-foot-four and plays the outside hitter position for the Knights. Groenveld is a former member of the Canadian Junior National men's volleyball program and competed for the last two seasons as a member of the McMaster Marauders.

Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld commented "Daniel has come in and set a very high standard of play for our program. He is hard working and very coach able. His ability to affect the outcome of matches in a variety of ways is his greatest attribute. He has been a great calming influence on our young team and has really stepped in a leadership role."

Groenveld has enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2013-14 season. He currently leads the OCAA in points-per-set (5.4), and the OCAA West Division in points, kills, kills-per-set, and hitting percentage.

Groenveld and the rest of the CCAA's second ranked Niagara College Knights (6-0) will return to action on Wednesday, November 20th when the team travels to Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals (4-1).
