Men's Volleyball Fall to Mohawk

Men's Volleyball Fall to Mohawk

Thursday night saw the Niagara College men's volleyball program lose for the first time in the 2013-14 season. The Knights struggled to find their rhythm against the high energy Mohawk Mountaineers and lost a hard fought five-set match at the David Brayley Athletic Centre. The set scores in the match were 26-28, 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 15-13.

Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld credited his opposition's performance, commenting "tonight was a tough match, they came out firing and played extremely well with a lot of emotion."

The Knights failed to find their high octane offense throughout the contest and proved unable to overcome the Mountaineers' team defense. Despite the loss coach Groenveld added "we made errors at critical times of the match and it cost us. But this is a good learning experience for us, we proved we can compete in tight matches despite not playing at our best."

The Knights will have little time to dwell on their first loss as the team will host the CCAA's #2 ranked Humber Hawks on Sunday, January 19th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

The two teams last met on November 7th in a match that saw the Knights earn a hard-fought four set victory.

Knights captain Jeff Scott commented "Humber has always has a strong and talented team. Our first meeting was full of emotion and I'm sure the second meeting this Sunday will not disappoint. This is the biggest game of the year for us and we need to buckle down and play."

First serve for Sunday's match is set for 3:00pm. Admission is free for all students, and for those unable to be in attendance, all Knights home games are live streamed at www.ocaatv.com
