Nathan Groenveld Named Provincial Team Assistant Coach

Nathan Groenveld, head coach of the Niagara College men's volleyball program has been named an Assistant Coach with Men's Volleyball Team Ontario. Groenveld has served as the Knights' head coach since the 2010-11 season.

Groenveld, a native of Welland, Ontario, has played an instrumental role in reestablishing the Niagara College Knights as one of the premier men's volleyball programs in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.

During his four year tenure with the Knights, Greonveld has compiled an overall record of 39-33, including back-to-back 14-4 records over the last two seasons. The 2012-13 season saw the Knights capture the OCAA West Division title, and finish fifth at the 2012-13 CCAA National Championship.

When asked about joining the Ontario provincial team, Groenveld commented "I'm looking forward to working with some of the top athletes and coaches in the province. It's an honour to be selected, and I'm looking forward to helping prepare these athletes for success at the National Team Challenge Cup."

Before turning to coaching, Groenveld enjoyed a standout playing career with the McMaster University Marauders that saw him named a CIS First-Team All-Canadian and OUA Player of the Year, before eventually being selected to play for the Canadian Senior men's national team.

Coaching top-tier provincial athletes will be nothing new for Greonveld, as the last two seasons has seen him coach a pair of CCAA All-Canadian Selections in Shayne Petrusma (2012-13) and Daniel Groenveld (2013-14) in addition to OCAA All-Rookie standouts Jeff Scott (2012-13) and Bailey Cochrane (2013-14).

Niagara College director of athletics & recreation Matthew Davies Commented "on behalf of the Knights Family we want to congratulate Nathan on his continued success as a coach. His commitment to the profession of coaching and dedication to developing elite-level volleyball across the province epitomizes the expectation that we have for our coaches. We wish him the best of luck this summer with Team Ontario."

Groenveld will serve as a coach with the West Division Men's All-Star team at the annual OCAA All-Star Weekend being hosted by Durham College on Saturday, March 22nd.
