Men's Volleyball Win Season Opener

Men's Volleyball Win Season Opener

The Niagara College men's volleyball program opened their 2013-14 season with a visit to the Boreal Vipers on Saturday, October 26th. The Knights displayed the talent and depth of their roster during an impressive three-set sweep over the Vipers.

Niagara College men's volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld commented "As a group we took control of the match and put some heavy service pressure on Boreal. This was a good test for us early in the season; an unknown opponent and five plus hour bus ride. All road games in the OCAA West are tough."

The match was particularly significant for Sudbury native James Clendenning. The first-year setter made his OCAA volleyball debut in his hometown, and quarterbacked the Knights offense to the victory. The Lockerby Composite School graduate stands at an imposing six-foot-four, and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College pre-health sciences program.

After the match Coach Groenveld spoke highly of Clendenning. "James played well in his first regular season action, we are proud of his play and composure playing in front of friends and family in his hometown. He came in and ran our offense very efficiently, played great defense, and served tough."

The Knights will face a short turnaround, as the team will remain in Sudbury for an afternoon matchup versus the Cambrian Golden Shield. First serve is set for 2:00pm.
