OVA All-Star Will Walton Joins Men's Volleyball Program

The Niagara College men's volleyball program is pleased to announce the addition of 2014 OVA All-Star middle blocker Will Walton. Walton joins the Knights having competed for the Clarke Road Trojans and OVA powerhouse LVC Fire.

Standing at a towering six-foot-six, Walton will add size, skill, and natural athleticism to a Knights men's volleyball program that has a record of 28-8 over the last two seasons.

"Will Walton is the type of player any team is looking to add" said Coach Groenveld. "He has excellent size and athleticism, and he competes at a very high level. He has the potential to excel in post-secondary play and is a fantastic addition to our program."

"I'm excited to join the Niagara Knights" said Walton during a meet and greet at Niagara College's Welland campus athletic centre. "I chose Niagara College due to the very strong volleyball program and because my academic program will help me in my future."

The London native will enroll in the Environmental Technician program at Niagara College's Niagara-on-the-Lake campus. He continued "I'm really looking forward to my program and growing as a person while at college."

Walton played his club volleyball with the London Volleyball Club Fire. The Fire were the 2014 season OVA Silver medalists. Walton also enjoyed a strong individual club campaign, earning a selection as an 18U All-Star.

"Will knows what to takes to win and has proven that he can play with the best in the province" added Coach Groenveld. "He will contribute immediately to our program and we are looking forward to seeing him develop as a player."

The 18-year old Walton is the second 2014 OVA All-Star to commit to the Knights for the 2014-15 season. He joins outside hitter Jeremy Williams as an incoming rookie looking to make an impact in the OCAA next season.

Walton and the rest of the Niagara College men's volleyball program will kick off their 2014-15 season with a pair of exhibition road matches on September 27th and 28th versus the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers.
