Male Athlete of the Week - James Clendenning
James Clendenning of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been selected as this week’s male athlete of the week. Clendenning gave the Knights a breakout performance from the setter position during the team’s January 10th victory over the Conestoga Condors.
The six-foot-four native of Sudbury recorded 21 assists, four digs, two blocks, a service ace, and a kill during the three set sweep over the Condors.
Niagara College men’s volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld felt that his first-year setter “really played well, and allowed us to run a very effective and well-rounded offense.”
Clendenning is a graduate of Lockerby Composite School and is currently enrolled in the Niagara College Pre-Health Sciences program.
Clendenning and the rest of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s #4 ranked Niagara College Knights (11-0) will return to action on Thursday, January 16th when the team travels to Mohawk to take on the 7-4 Mountaineers.
Female Athlete of the Week - Miranda Ross
Miranda Ross of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been selected as this week’s female athlete of the week. Ross recorded a total of 25 points and 14 rebounds during the Knights two games last week.
The six-foot-one native of St. Catharines is currently in her third year with the women’s basketball program. Ross was Knights’ best player during the team’s January 8th loss versus the Mohawk Mountaineers. She finished with 13 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
The Eden High School graduate also played a critical role in the Knights 20-point come-from-behind victory over the Redeemer Royals on January 11th. Ross finished with 12 points, including eight in the second half, while also leading the team with eight rebounds.
Ross and the rest of the Niagara College women’s basketball program (8-3) will return to action on Friday, January 17th when the team takes on the Sheridan College Bruins.
